Hall of Arts (Műcsarnok)

Built for Hungary's 1896 millennium, it owns no art — only whatever artists are showing this month.

Coming soon on iOS — be first to walk Budapest offline.

Designed by Albert Schickedanz and Fülöp Herczog as part of the same millennium project that created Heroes' Square, this Neoclassical building runs on the German Kunsthalle model: no permanent collection, artist-run, entirely temporary shows. Every visit is different. The Műcsarnok Café looks directly onto the square.

What to look for

Check the current temporary exhibition before visiting; the building has a bookshop and library on site alongside the café.
