Puente de la Mujer

Calatrava shaped this bridge after two bodies mid-tango — and the 170-metre span literally rotates.

Coming soon on iOS — be first to walk Buenos Aires offline.

One of only two Calatrava structures in Latin America, it swings 90 degrees on a white concrete pylon to let boats through Dock 3 in under two minutes. The 800-tonne cable-stayed footbridge in Puerto Madero makes engineering feel choreographed.

What to look for

Stand on the fixed eastern section — the computer-operated turning mechanism is housed there — and watch if a boat triggers the full 90-degree swing, which clears in under two minutes.

Puente de la Mujer is one of 34 sights worth the detour in Buenos Aires, all bundled offline in Voyage GO — download the Buenos Aires pack and it sits on your map with no signal, filling your travel passport the moment you walk past.
