Carved into a concave meadow the Reeds chose in 1919 for its natural acoustics, the Bowl is the Los Angeles Philharmonic's summer home and hosts hundreds of musical events each year. Rolling Stone named it one of America's ten best live venues in 2018, and it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2023 — all while remaining county-owned and community-rooted.
What to look for
- The bandshell's layered form — the original concentric arches stood from 1929 to 2003 before a larger replacement debuted for the 2004 season
- The Hollywood Sign to the northeast, visible over the stage as a natural frame the designers didn't have to build
- The bowl shape itself: a genuine concave dell originally called Daisy Dell, selected for acoustics, not engineered from scratch
