St. Peter's Church (Alter Peter)

Munich's oldest parish church stands on the hill where the city itself was born — before the city existed.

Eighth-century monks lived on Petersbergl around this church centuries before Munich's 1158 founding. A 1327 fire levelled it; WWII bombing damaged it again. What survives is a layered interior: Gothic structure, a Renaissance steeple top added in the early 17th century, Baroque choir, and frescoes restored after the war.
