Caesars Superdome
Eight Super Bowls, one hurricane shelter, and the largest fixed dome on Earth — all in one building.

Designed in 1967 by New Orleans modernist firm Curtis and Davis and opened in 1975, this 680-foot-wide steel dome holds two records: biggest fixed domed structure in the world, and more Super Bowl hosts than any other stadium (eight, as of 2025). In 2005 it sheltered thousands during Hurricane Katrina, suffered extensive damage, then reopened for the Saints' home opener on September 25, 2006 — a timeline the city remembers.
What to look for
- The lamellar multi-ringed steel frame spanning 680 feet across — the dome rises 273 feet and is visible well before you reach it
- The sheer ground footprint: the steel frame covers 13 acres, which registers only once you're standing at street level
- Any reference to the Bayou Classic, the annual rivalry game between Southern University and Grambling State played here — one of the building's less-publicized but long-running traditions
Active NFL home venue for the New Orleans Saints — exterior viewing is always free, but interior access depends on the event calendar.
