The centerpiece tower of Rockefeller Center, completed in 1933 and the third tallest building in the world when it opened. Its Top of the Rock observation deck puts you above Midtown Manhattan, and the building still holds NBC's New York studios and headquarters.

What to look for

The main entrance is on Rockefeller Plaza, a private pedestrian street running parallel to Fifth and Sixth Avenues.
