Broadway

New York's oldest north–south road started as the Wickquasgeck trail, walked by Native Americans through swamp and rock before Europeans arrived.

It runs 13 miles down Manhattan and keeps going through the Bronx and Westchester. In Midtown it's the heart of American commercial theater; in Lower Manhattan its "Canyon of Heroes" is the route for ticker-tape parades.
