The physical centrepiece of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, completed in March 1999 and built as the largest Olympic stadium ever constructed. A 2003 reconfiguration cut capacity to 80,000 and added awnings over the north and south stands, so most seats now sit under cover — the stadium wears its renovation visibly.
