Built in 1637–41 for King Władysław IV as a Baroque suburban villa with a loggia overlooking the Vistula, remodelled in 1765–68 by Domenico Merlini for a Corps of Cadets, and serving Warsaw University since 1816. Its original interior mixed Venetian-style gilded ceilings with black Dębnik and brown Chęciny marble portals — and its garden sculptures were partly bought in Florence, partly produced in Prague by Adrien de Vries.
