Circuito da Boavista
The street where Stirling Moss argued against his own championship — and lost it by exactly 1 point.

Avenida da Boavista is an ordinary Porto boulevard that twice hosted Formula One. In 1958, Moss lobbied stewards to spare rival Mike Hawthorn from disqualification after a spin. Hawthorn kept his second place and 6 points — then beat Moss for the world title by 1 point. The 1960 race saw future champions Surtees, Phil Hill, and Graham Hill all retire before the finish.
What to look for
- The Esplanada do Rio de Janeiro harbor-front, where the original circuit started and finished
- Avenida da Boavista itself — the namesake main straight that gave the circuit its name
- The tight residential backstreets where the course twisted back toward the start-finish line
The circuit was suspended in 2015 and exists only as public streets — walk or cycle Avenida da Boavista westward from the harbor to trace the old layout.
Circuito da Boavista is one of 13 sights worth the detour in Porto, all bundled offline in Voyage GO — download the Porto pack and it sits on your map with no signal, filling your travel passport the moment you walk past.
