Estádio do Bessa
Boavista rebuilt this ground stand by stand while still playing in it — a live Euro 2004 renovation that never cleared the pitch.

The site has been a football ground since 1910, when the original Campo do Bessa opened here. For Euro 2004 each new stand was built separately, letting Boavista FC keep playing throughout. The finished bowl, designed by Grupo3 Arquitectura and seating 28,263, hosted UEFA Euro 2004 matches including Portugal national team fixtures.
What to look for
- The uneven stand profile — each section went up at a different time, meaning the bowl was never fully emptied or rebuilt in one go
- The all-seater layout of 28,263 — a figure locked in for the Euro 2004 renovation that was already under way when Portugal won the hosting rights in 1999
- The footprint itself, which has been a football ground continuously since 1910 as the former Campo do Bessa
Located in the Boavista area of Porto; still the active home ground of Boavista FC.
